Motor third party liability insurance

A A A

Even the most careful drivers who follow safety requirements may be involved in a car accident. This is why all vehicles used in traffic are required to have mandatory motor third party liability insurance, regulated by the Motor Third Party Liability Insurance Act.

Terms and Conditions
  • Motor Third Party Liability Insurance Act

If a vehicle, which is subject to mandatory motor third party liability insurance, causes a car accident, the property damage and personal injury caused to the injured party will be compensated for, as well as the medical treatment expenses of the party at fault. However, the vehicle's own damage will not be indemnified (this type of damage is compensated for by optional motor insurance, or motor vehicle insurance).

Upon purchasing motor third party liability insurance, the customer can choose between two contract types – YES-contract and NO-contract.

  • YES-contract is the most suitable option for the customer, since it is available at an affordable price and because the insurance policy is extended automatically upon its expiry, which means that a driver does not need to remember the expiry date of the insurance policy. In the case of this type of contract there is no risk that a vehicle will be left without valid motor insurance if the driver forgets to extend the insurance policy in time. Prior to the expiry date of the existing insurance policy Seesam will send you a new invoice, upon the payment of which a new policy will be issued straight away. The YES-contract is a must for vehicles purchased with a loan and leased vehicles.
  • NO-contract is suitable for those vehicles which are not used in traffic all year round. The insurance policy is not extended automatically, and upon the expiry of the policy the customer can decide for himself/herself whether he or she wants to extend the insurance policy. The invoice for the new period is issued when a person informs a sales representative of Seesam about his/her wish to extend the insurance policy by phone or e-mail.

Drivers are not required to carry the paper version of the insurance policy while driving within the borders of Estonia, since the existence of the insurance policy can be checked through the Insurance Policy Registry.

If you want to travel outside Estonia, you are going to need a Green Card, which proves the validity of insurance coverage in the countries indicated on the card.

Motor third party liability insurance is valid in the following countries:

  • Estonia
  • the countries of the European Economic Area (including the European Union) and Switzerland
  • outside the European Economic Area in the countries indicated on the Green Card.

On 1 January 2009, Russia was added to the list of countries indicated on the motor third party liability insurance Green Card. The Green Card with enhanced territorial validity is issued to Seesam’s customers FREE OF CHARGE.
